What is criminology: criminology is the body of knowledge regarding crime as a social phenomenon. Chicago school: crime is a statistical phenomenon; human behaviour is determined by social structures and physical environmental factors, understand why crime rates higher in some neighborhoods, human behavior determined by social structures, determined by physical environment. Cultural forces : criminals acquire interest, ability, and means of justification for crime through relationships with others: criminal acquires criminal interests, abilities, means, and justification for doing crime through relationships with others. Importance of external factors: crime as a social process.
