Income and basic needs are more strongly associated with life satisfaction than with positive/negative emotions. Income predicts swb more strongly in less wealth nations: poorer countries tend to have higher swb than more developed nations. Income is more important in economically developed countries. If you come from a developing nation and you have a small increase in your income it can dramatically increase your life satisfaction: majority of people in the world live in developing countries. Individualism: personal interests are more important than group interests: ex. Usa, uk and commonwealth: collectivism: interests of the in-group are more important than personal interests, ex. china, india. Individualism and swb: individual level: over and above wealth, individualism was associated with lower swb.
