Understanding groups: voluntary groups (clubs, not always given a choice to be in a group, diad- 2 ppl group, triad- 3 ppl group, bigger group, less interaction amongst all members, communication breaks down and harder to find cohesion. Is someones a part of the group for longer they have more control: more people=more relationships, more ppl = less intimacy, close connections lost with larger group. Components of group: power is relational, its not static in time, can be changed quickly. Someone holds greater control than someone else, creates sense of dominance. Status is relational and based on difference, if we look at status hierarchies (low middle high class), status differentiation, categorizing people. Justice, social comparison, if we feel were under rewarded or feel unequal within the rewards we receive we feel a sense of injustice that leads to conflict of status changes, want justice to be served.
