Document Summary
We have always been surviving in groups. A social unit with 2 or more people with the following. Examples: scouts, costco membership, this class, mmorpg"s (cid:523)e. g. wow(cid:524) guilds, raids. The extent to which its members desire to stay in it the group/resist leaving it. Tendency for individuals to associate w/ similar others. Task cohesion: the tasks keeps the group together. Group goal: an outcome viewed by group members as desirable and important to attain. Individual and group goals can be related, but not always the same. High isomorphism benefits the group b/c members are. The ringelmann rope-pulling task (1913) motivated to complete the goals: a group pulling a rope. 1: as number of members increase, the average contribution of each member decreases. Motivation loss that occurs when an individual"s contribution. You don"t know how much you should be doing becomes less clear to the group: inverse/negative relationship. Diffusion of responsibility: when the group becomes larger, deindividuation more likely.
