People tend to have an aversion to aggression. E. g. soldiers don"t shoot have to be desensitized. E. g. kitty genovese murdered, but no one came to help. Any behaviour intended to harm another person that the target person what to avoid. Trying to aid someone without expecting a reward: the good feeling is the reward. We have an innate desire for destruction. Sociobiology (wilson 1975) (evolutionary psychology: darwinian ideology to animal/human behaviour, aggression/altruistic behaviour is selectively targeted to increase the chances that our own genes will be passed on to subsequent generations. Behaviour that is better adapted to the environment should be. Aggression helps catch prey, meercats have a group passed on dynamic take turns looking out. Cross-cultural variations in aggression/altruism: decline in violent crime rate in canada, e. g. compare japans shootings vs. americas. Aggression/alturism is learned: bandura (1961) doll studies, children observe an adult playing with the doll, scenario 1 play nice, scenario 2 beat up the doll.
