Socialization is therefore the means by which social and cultural continuity are attained" (clausen 1989) Primary socialization: childhood development, what a child learns, what is of value to them, primary interaction of young children. Secondary socialization: learning the appropriate ways to behave within other groups in society, socialization with peers, teachers, when we enter professions, as they have strict norms on how to act and how to be. Anticipatory socialization: how we feel to be in a role, and what we are expected to do, how this role could be influential on us, ex. Re-socialization: we enter social roles throughout the life course, they don"t live a normal everyday life. Development theory: timing and sequencing of physical/psychological development in early childhood. Social learning theory: acquisition of cognitive and behavioural skills in interaction with the environment. Interpretive theory: discovery of the meanings common to the social group.
