It is intended to provide an overview of some key issues as well as context for understanding the assigned reading (which provides more detail). You are expected to do the reading and learn more. Two stages in the process of seeking employment. As noted in an earlier lecture, sociologists who study job searching and labour markets identify two distinct stages in the process of seeking employment. The first stage involves searching, and the second stage involves screening. The searching stage has been examined in the past three lectures. Three key aspects of this stage have been examined: doing research on potential jobs; engaging in the process of networking; and engaging in self-promotional activities. For sociologists, the searching stage raises a number of sociological issues.
