Sexual script theory the major sociological challenge to drive model sexuality not a drive, instinct or essence. Is socially constructed, we create the sexual, we can have physiological response but we don"t know it is sexual until society says so is socially organized, maintained & transformed. Sexuality has no existence or meaning outside of the social sexuality the product of early exps & social learning approach addressed: how desire is expressed sexually & non-sexually. In situationally varied everyday behaviour, context is important. Basic premise is that sexual and social behaviour is socially scripted. We have gender scripts on what is appropriate behaviour. Social control on bodies and sexuality work a watershed moment in sex research deemed 1 of 25 classic works of sexual history. Among most cited theoretical models of sexuality post freud heralded as new paradigm from which other theories of sexuality has sprung. Sexual script theory approach reflects: theoretical shift from nature to nurture.
