Post wwii - sexuality remains contained w/in heterosexual marriage: reproduction its raison d" tre, all else deviant, pathological, immoral. However, norms against pre/extramarital sex q"d: due to the findings of kinsey and m&j, the rise of youth subcultures & countercultures, the creation of the pill , gave women more control" over their reproduction. The rise of a spirit of sexual freedom during 1960"s and 1970"s. Inspired by antiwar & civil rights movements o: many saw selves as sexual liberationists , sexuality linked to the political. The body becomes integral to self-expression: liberated & sexualized body symbolic of the 1960s counterculture revolution. However, these social & sex revolutions: are experienced and understood differently by feminist activists. Although revolutionary rhetoric of civil rights & anti-war movements emphasized sexual freedom: Women felt ignored, patronized and sexually exploited by political men. Sexual liberation for (men) meant freedom to make it with anyone, anytime. However, sexual freedom had a different meaning for women.
