Emergence of jobs, system of production began, manufacturing, machines. Technological change started in late 18th century. Steam engine, telegraph, trains, change in transportation, telecommunication. Pace of change becomes larger ; acceleration of change, leads to accelerated o o o o globalization. Modernization is related to enlightenment: a scientific explanation. Scientific way of thinking: through science we could compare the world, we can tame it, we can change it, we are the ruler of the world and forced it to be a certain way o. Idea of progress: enlightenment broadly means wisdom or understanding enabling clarity ofperception. What is modernity again: rationality; using our skills we develop sciences (math, science) Being reasonable/ based on facts and reasoning of ideas. Replacement of traditions/values and emotions into rational ones. Rationalisation refers to the process of replacing the current values, traditions and emotions of a society, that motivate their current behaviors, with thoughts and actions which appear to be more rational.
