He only saw oral sex, and not anal sex: methodology of the research - he made use of several different methods field research participant observation. He passed himself off as being homosexual so he could be seen as playing a role in the tearoom. Only two agreed to be audio taped, and took notes on the others: physical traces. On some days he did not go inside the tearoom, but hid in the bushes and watched them (he knew the men by then) He was able to connect the men with their car and took down their licence plate number physically tracing these men. He got his hands on the automobile license registry and told them he was doing marketing research he got access: archival records. He got the names and addresses of the men. He then checked the names and addresses against city and country directories.
