There was variaion eastern/south eastern europe younger age in marriage more likely to see 3 gen families, central and western europe married later less likely to have 3 gen families. Pre-industrial families not that big 4-5 people. Oten had servants or other help to work and live in the household (ie during harvest), made families seem bigger. Existence of non-kin sets pre-ind families apart. Arisan households making products on small scale, not farming. Avg family size in pre-ind not so diferent from industrial.
