A voluntary association that is organized for the collective pursuit of interests. Special class-related interests: ex: trade union represents working class interests. Non-economic or status-related concerns: ex: national action committee on the status of women. A pressure group or special interest organization: ex: canadian taxpayers association, planned parenthood. They all have one thing in common: sense of group consciousness: party has something in common with social class and status group. They possess a sense of group consciousness. A social class or status group can become a party: to become a party it must have two specific things: formal organization and administrative staff. Weber defined power as the probability that one actor within a social relationship will be in a position to carry out his own will despite resistance . There are two basic problems on weber"s definition of power: some sociologists argue that this definition is too broad.
