Two factors seems important: occupation determines wage rate, women are concentrated into lower paying occupations. Thus: differences in occupational concentration leads to differences in wages. Women"s entry into high paying spaces, however it was offset by women falling into precarious work (lower end of the pay scale) Pracarity reduces the earning potential of women in canada. According to statistics canada: women who work full time, for the entire year earned an average 73% of what similarly employed men earned in 1997 (this has not changed much) Women currently earn about 77 cents for every male dollar. Want jobs that are challenging, can move up, earn good wages and have benefits. However women are less likely to receive benefits and good wages because of the nature of the work these women are in (precarious) Men tend to be found in higher skilled positions. Inconsistency between the quality of work completed by men and women.
