Chapter 13: bonnie fox when the baby comes home: the dynamics of gender in the. Sets up gender-based inequalities which means that women shoulder more of the work while becoming more nancially dependent on their partners. More than economic disadvantages quality of life issues (time, etc. ) Couples become increasingly unhappy in relationships due to this division. Fox found that gender inequality developed among couples: women try to protect and cater to their male partner to protect from demands of parenthood. The couples came to believe that overtime women should be primary caregivers. Economic factors also supported the caregiving decisions these couples made. Some men don"t have access to parental leave (2015: canada, 9% of men take parental leave) A stigma in this country that prevents men from taking parental leave that women don"t face. Women exhausted protected husbands (from sleep deprivation, breadwinning qualities etc. ) Men were viewed as secondary caregivers in this study.
