Family economy: the family was both a unit of production as well as a unit of consumption. Traditional divisions of labour not as rigid. Household labour needs, subsistence requirements, and family relationships constituted the family economy you were all held together (if your family was known as bakers then you were all bakers) Research points to the early beginnings of the division of labour. Relationship in pre-industrial (feudalist) there was an egalitarian relationship. Domestic life was not split from public life. Small scale farming was being replaced by large industrial. Larger canadian economy was changing from agriculture, to industrial growth of commercial and industrial.
