An economic class that has acquired some subjective sense of unity and class consciousness and organization. In relation to other class than just proletariat: comparison to marx: class in itself and class for itself. In itself: a collectivity that is identifiable on economic grounds: for itself: a consciousness of common positions and interests. In relation to proletariat: status and party.
