Objective: idea that the reality we experience is all the same (all interpret and feel things in the same way) Positivist: people that think the social world should be studied the same way we study hard science (very stats orientated) Interpretivist: think you need special techniques to understand experiences of people (tend to be more qualitative) Micro tend to favour agency, subjective reality and are interpretivists. Macro tend to favour structure, believe in an objective reality, favour the use of positivism. Famously known for his work on suicide, religion, division of labour, alienation.
