SOCIOL 2D06 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Operationalization, Belmont Report, National Research Act
Document Summary
Can be done through interviews, focus groups, surveys, archival research, etc. Hypothesis: specific statements about how variables will relate to one another in a research study, developed to try and learn from an established question. Variables: independent (leads to a change), and dependent variables (change as a result of the independent variable) Operationalization: a measureable concept, means break something down into its key elements, to make sense of something (i. e. : terms, and ways). Operationalizing a definition means you are making this concept measurable that can be used to study and look at different things. Sampling: population, sample, random, cluster, convenience (you have a participant, who says oh i know someone who can participate, snowball (getting friends, from a previous participant) Many are used in conjunction with one another. Vivo or their own methods of analysing data: dissemination of data (getting your research out into some form of a report, or publication)
