Bourdieu: distinction: a social critique of the judgement of taste (1979) People learn to consume culture and this type of learning (which occurs the length of our lives) is mediated and differentiated by social class, people learn to consume culture, this type of culture is mediated by our social class. All cultural practices, symbols, artistic taste, eating habits, all embody a function of social distinction. Culture has political and ideological consequences, the culture of imperialism the innate aspiration of sovereignty and domination.
