Surveys (self administered questionnaires, interviews: people complete it themselves (self-adminis. , works well when questions are brief and the person is expected to complete the survey (self-admisnis. , interviews for questions that are lengthy and complicated. Observatory studies (participant observation, ethnography: participation observation researcher spends time with the social group that they"re studying. They observe them and field notes are data sets (wht people are saying, etc: ethnography spending time with the group and data sets but also supplementing those data with other written documents such as newsletters. Secondary data analysis ( document analysis , historical sociology , use of official statistics : the researcher has not collected the data themselves. Use data that someone else (eg. government) had provided for them. they analyze this data: document analysis use existing documents. Examining advertisement: official statistics analyzing statistics.
