Ability to understand personal private issue to what is happening to society. Unemployment: have a town of 20,000 people. If it"s just one it is possible it has to do with the adult. If you have a significant number of adults who can be working and are unemployed then we question if it has to do with the broader society. Problems with economy, collapse in economy, etc: mills talked about the great depression. Economy had fallen, not because of individual problems. Divorce: most of class knew someone who was divorced, causes of divorce there are individual issues and broader societal issues that can impact the increase of divorce. Infidelity, increase in secularism (movement away from religion), women"s rights, financial issues. People living longer people have to stay married longer than they used to be. Legal changes reform in divorce legislation makes it easier from a legal stand point.
