Narratives of genesis through second kings/nehemiah and then extends further through the gospels/acts (main story parts of new testament) and then it goes to the book of revelation. A lot of poetic and prophetic books in the old testament. In various ways they do connect to the plot. Psalms contain the story of david and the covenant/faithfulness of god. A lot of the books that aren"t integrated into the main plot still have a connection. This is an erotic love poem between a male and female. This has a very tenuous to the coherent narrative of the bible. A lot of interpretation in order to fit it into the united narrative of the bible. On the jewish side: two lovers are god and israel. This perspective may be the right and original intention which ties in nicely to the narrative. Christianity interprets it as god and the church.
