Idea of purification (fam members wash themselves after burying someone) Amaterasu is out of left eye, susano from nose, and right eye=moon kami. 14 different kami produced out of izanagii"s purifaction after chasing izanami from the underworld. When you go to a shrine, you"ll always see a place to purify yourself. Misogi=word for purifying, all forms of purifying in water. Aragyo-very intense spiritual practice, involves 100 days in winter in clothes like that chanting. Which allows priests to do a bunch of things like purify spirits and stuff. General purification= when you go to a shrine, and you"ll see a water well in front with bamboo scoops. You collect the water, rinse your hands and your mouth. We see public baths in japan from about the 14th century. The name for them is sento, from: it means pay for water. You pay coin, and you get hot water. In kamakura period, the iron bath became very popular.
