Social inequalities in health are identified in multiple components of socioeconomic status (ses), where these inequalities are associated with mental health problems in children (reiss, 2013). Children of disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds are two to three times more likely to have mental health problems in comparison to peers of advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. Low socioeconomic status is the strongest predictor of child mental health problems by the age of 18 (werner & smith, 1992). Ses throughout childhood and a decline in a child"s ses are significant predictors of the onset of mental health problems (davis et al. , 2010). However, improvements in ses result in a reduction of mental health problems and also subsequent remission of mental health problems.
