Facial composites (continued from lecture 4: computer systems, identi-kit, photofit, mac-a-mug, designed solely as a computer program unlike identi-kit and photofit, which were, designed as mechanical systems first, still piecing together different facial parts to create a face. Only 3 of 167 (less than 2%) correctly selected: e-fit, piecing together different facial features. More realistic than other programs (in colour, rather than b&w, and high resolution): photographic quality features. Includes more comprehensive and reliable instructions and training. Judges identified 35% of operator (that were trained in using this program) composites. Judges identified 25% of witness composites: participants made composite of famous face from photograph and from memory. Purpose of experiment was to see if you had a pic of a person, while navigating through this program, ideally, the composite created should be very similar to the picture you were looking at. Judges name only 10% of composites from photo and 6% from memory. Both numbers aren"t that good: faces, facette.
