David hansen: charged with rape and kidnapping in 2005 on identification by victim from 1500 photos, cleared by dna evidence. Marlon pendleton: 1992 rape conviction, overturned based on dna evidence. James lee woodard: convicted in 1980 of murder on the basis of 2 eyewitnesses, freed by dna evidence in 2008 after 27 years in prison. Michael phillips: convicted in 1990 on basis of rape-victim identification, served full 12-year sentence. Dr. donald m. thompson: detained by police in 1974 for rape based on victim"s description. Innocence project estimates 73% of false convictions based on mistaken eyewitness identification. We don"t have to remember everything: no memory before ~2 years of age, no information about repeated events, memory is a reconstruction from pieces. Memory need not to be 100% accurate. Encoding: process in changing sometimes, easiest to use, can be errors that take place in this process.
