Stage 2: decision process model - of the crime not the offender: homicide type & style, primary intent, victim, offender risk - victims is spending time in sketchy places in town you are putting yourself at risk. Offender risk is if he did it in the day light that is really risky: escalation risk - characteristics of the crime scene we can tell if the crime will continue, continue in severity time, location factors. Stage 4: criminal profile: demographics, physical characteristics, habits, beliefs & values recommendations. Organized-disorganized distinction - canter et al (2004) interviews unstructured, different for each interviewee: distinction based on interviews with convenience sample of 36 serial murders, no subsequent validation of distinction with another sample.
