Talking about the lies people tell when involved in serious crimes and in interrogations. Judges rate more statements as true than as false (cid:523)(cid:494)truth bias(cid:495)(cid:524: we are actively deceived by the person that is lying, investigator response bias, more to judge confessors guilty, motivation makes liars easier to detect. Control question test: does not measure lying but negative emotions (guilt) that accompany telling a lie, measures anxiety, nervousness, worrying, relevant questions: about crime or event in question. Control question test procedure (most common: pre-test, convince subject of test accuracy the accuracy of the test. If the polygraph says there was a lie and there was a lie = hit. If the polygraph says there was a truth but it was a lie = miss (error)
