Happy child until he goes to bed. Trouble sleep; sleeps 2-3 hours at night. Still a lot of controversy if panic attacks happen in children. Cued (occur after certain trigger) or uncued (seemingly happen for no reason) Can occur within the context of other anxiety disorders. Month or more of recurrent unexpected panic attacks with either: Persistent worry about having other panic attacks or its implications. A significant maladaptive change in behaviour related to attacks (e. g. avoidance of situations or people) Only uncued panic attacks are classified as a disorder. There is controversy whether this happens in kids. 16% of youth ages 12-17 in an australian sample had at least one panic attack in their life time. 50% of youth with panic attacks also report symptoms of going crazy" and fear of dying. Natural environment (e. g. deep ocean, snowstorms, natural disasters) Prevalence rates range from 5-16% depending on age. Nearly half meet criteria for another anxiety disorder.
