The delineation of major diagnostic categories and dimensions of behavioural disorder. If we were to design our own classification system: by a number of methods: reliable have consistency! Clinically derived that was based on the consensus of clinicians regarding: concepts of a disorder , diagnostic criteria. Uses a categorical approach: different between typical and pathological = categorical, based on type of behavioural expression and not the degree. Dsm-5 is organized in groups of related disorders. Intellectual disabilities: communication disorders, autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disorder, tic disorders. Interferes with developmentally appropriate functioning: does not occur exclusively with other disorders. Diagnostic features: fuller description of inattentive/hyperactivity, impulsivity, behavioural manifestations, and duration of symptoms. Subtypes adhd: adhd, combined subtype, adhd, predominantly inattentive, adhd, predominantly hyperactive. Associated features and disorders: low frustration tolerance, temper outburst, bossiness, stubbornness, excessive and frequent insistent that requests be met, mood lability demoralization, dysphoria, rejection by peers, and poor self-esteem.
