Marriage as a way of showing your mate belongs to you. It is a very helpful signal to everyone that your relationship is a full commitment, and that you are going to reproduce together. Easier to guard mate when she is ovulating. Easier to sense when mate is cheating. Consistent sexual access to someone you are married to. You don"t want to lose the resources that your mate is investing in your children. Try to gage if mate is more likely to be faithful or unfaithful. Two solutions: character- ensure that mate has characteristic"s that will mean she will be faithful, emotional and behavioral adaptiveness. Preference from premarital non-promiscuity: women who are promiscuous before marriage are more likely to be promiscuous when married, men find promiscuity the least desirable trait in a mate, even in sweden men do not like promiscuous women. Thompson 1983- found the correlation between being promiscuous before marriage and after marriage.
