PSYCH 3AC3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Puberty, Sociosexual Orientation, Masturbation
Document Summary
Why do we have sex: something causes us to need it, a hunger drive. Drive is a state that is forcing us to do something to solve a dilemma that we are experiencing. Associated with an actual need for sex. From an evolutionary perspective this makes sense, as sex is an act needed for reproduction: our genes are making us have sex, genes want to find themselves a new vessel. Beware confounds with related concepts: beliefs that prevent individuals from seeking out sexual intercourse. Chosen not to have sex: societal constrains of work and school, not attractive enough to get sex, gender ratio does not favour them having sex. Prison (high enough sex drive leads to them having sex with the same sex: so make sure we are not collecting data on the availability of a partner. Without a partner, we cannot engage in sex.
