Document Summary
Lecture 24 - attention & priming unilateral neglect syndrome: (aka hemispatial) An attention deficit usually due to stroke. Person is completely blind to one side of space (usually to left side) Evidence that we allocate our attentional resources to areas in space. Ps presented with barbell, with a target in either right or left side. Person with hemispatial neglect: much better at identifying targets on right side than left. Getting unilateral neglect patients to engage in object based perception may allow them to override their spatial- attention deficits* idea of an attention budget: Does paying attention to one thing hurt paying attention to something else: yes. Maybe: attention has to do with preparing yourself to receive some source of info rather than another. And if the message switches ears, we might switch ears too, why: a: knowing what to expect primes the appropriate detectors. Different types of priming: posner and snyder 1975.
