Document Summary

Memory is blurred: data suggests we can retrieve 11 colors, but we are hard at discriminating within categories, details are impoverished. Memory is a reconstructive process: there is source confusion. It is hard to tell the difference between something you made up and what happened. If a schema is triggered at the moment of learning, that learning is more permanent. Intrusions versus implanted: these are memory intrusions, but can we implant false memories, this is a big topic for the legal justice system. Summary: we construct knowledge using assumptions a prior knowledge, this has implications in the legal justice system. Memory and eyewitness testimony: this is when memory errors matter, they can effect a person"s life, you mis identify them in a crime, the person goes to jail. How does this go wrong: they are asked misleading questions, given misinformation that is inconsistent with memory, there could be misattribution of source, there is retroactive interference.
