Document Summary

Participants witnessed a crime and were shown a picture of the suspect. They were asked to identify the suspect in a picture. Later, they were provided with feedback, which affected confidence, but not accuracy. Retention interval: the amount of time elapsed between initial learning and subsequent retrieval. After 20 minutes, retention goes from 100% to 60%. After 31 days, only 20% of material is remembered. The pattern persists no matter what you are learning. Retrieval failure: memory is intact but cannot be accessed (tip of the tongue) E. g. remembering rugby team names throughout the season: it is not just the passage of time, but also what happens within that passage of time that impairs memory. She did not explain this study at all. Hypnosis makes people more open to misinformation. Memories are not recovered, instead they are recreated. Half subjects went home to sleep, others underwent sleep deprivation in the lab (tv, games, but no reading to avoid interference)
