If we can relieve the negative state, then we will not help: empathy does induce negative state, empathy leads to egoistic help, empathy is still a good help because it raises the quality of help, caveat. If you are in a very negative state like depression or grief, this does not lead to increased helping: your negative state is so negative you will not do anything good for yourself or anyone else. It is using the wrong number technique: the dependent variable is making the call, you have to look up the number and make the call. If you are asked for big favor within 7 minutes of getting free sample then you have a really great chance of making the call 80%, done by half 10-16 mins: the affect lasts about 20 mins. Being in the know: familiarity and similarity: how familiar are you with your setting, familiarity decreases the cost of helping.
