Document Summary

Freud saw small number of instinctual needs and drives: sexual and aggressive. Jung: general life enhancing force, powering a whole range of instinctual drives and needs, stressed principle of equivalence (law of thermodynamics), libido is neither created nor destroyed. Jung: libido shifts away from biological needs to psychological, spiritual needs. Not so much tension but balance, the highest possible goal was to evenly distribute libido, entropy as well as self actualization. Personal unconscious: ego only begins to develop at birth, all of the ego is unconscious. Complexes: collection of ideas, impressions, images that have a common theme and a shared emotional tone, all about the same thing. Most complexes have at their core an archetype energy. Because complexes contain archetypal energy, they power our behaviour. Complexes can be positive or negative depending on what they direct you to do. Negative: if it sucks to much energy not related to growth. Bring out of unconsciousness and into consciousness.
