PSYCH 2B03 Lecture Notes - Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, 16Pf Questionnaire
Document Summary
Used by both theorists and laypersons: wanted terms that both non psychologist and psychologist saw as basic in other people, had to purvey the construct systems of laypersons and theorist. Appear across cultures: appear everywhere in the world. Must have some biological basis: in order for a trait to be considered basic there has to be a biological basis (assumption), everyone can be categorized along the dimension, extroversion/introversion does have a biological basis. Set up to look for non-orthogonal factors and came up with 16 personality factors. Developed a personality inventory: 16pf, which assessed all of these. Difficulty with trying to name all these traits. 16pf test is still very widely used as an independent measure. Set up to look only for orthogonal factors. A number of studies converged on the ideal that there were 5 basic factors factor itself is not a trait but intercorrelated traits. Dimension 2 aggreableness/hostility: getting along with others friendliness-hostility likeability friendly compliance.
