Now most researched of all childhood disorders. 1970s: attention deficit disorder (add); +h or -h for presence of hyperactivity (aka with or witout hyperactivity) 1980s: add plus attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) for those with hyperactivity. Dsm-iv (1994) and dsm05 use adhd for all cases; three subtypes. 6 of these 9 for at least 6 months: ( often ) Fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes. Has difficult sustaining attention in work or play. Does not seem to listen to when spoken to directly. Does not follow through on instructions; fails to finish work. Dislikes or avoids tasks requiring sustained mental effort. Loses things necessary for tasks or activities. 6 of these 9 for at least 6 months ( often ): Fidgets with or taps hands or feet and squirms in seat. Leaves seat in situations in which remaining seated is expected.
