Excessive anxiety more days than not for 6 months or more, about several events or activities. Person finds it difficult to control the worry. Accompanied by at least 3 of the following 6 symptoms, more days that not for the last 6 months: restlessness; feeling on edge, easily fatigued, difficulty concentrating, irritability, muscle tension, difficulty sleeping. Symptoms causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Symptoms not due to the physiological effects of a substance or another medical condition . Symptoms not explained by another mental disorder (cid:1) (cid:1) Motor tension problems: trembling, shaking, muscle aches. Autonomic hyperactivity: tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), sweating, dizziness (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1, nausea, gi complaints. Vigilance, scanning symptoms: exaggerated startle response. Usually starts in 20s or 30s, high proportion in childhood or adolescence. 3% annual prevalence lifetime prevalence = 5-6% lifetime prevalence worldwide 2-11%
