Communication disorders: language disorders, speech sound disorders, childhood-onset fluency disorder, social (pragmatic) communication disorder, unspecified communication disorder. Motor disorders: developmental coordination disorder, stereotypic movement disorder, tourette"s disorder, chronic (pervasive) tic disorder. First described in 1902 by dr. george still, english physician: most heavily researched of childhood disorders. Now most researched of all childhood disorders. Mane changes over the years: 1960s: minimal brain dysfunction (mbd, 1970s: attention deficit disorder (add); +h or h for presence, 1980s: add plus attention deficit hyperactivity disorder of hyperactivity (adhd) for those with hyperactivity. Dsm-iv (1994) and dsm-5 use adhd for all cases; three subtypes. These symptoms have to happen in more than one life space (e. g. , school, home, work) Has to hamper the child in some way. General social clumsiness: egocentric; unaware of how others see them, insensitive to convention, social expectations (turn taking, difficulty reading facial expressions, slight but noticeable aggressive tendencies, poor understanding of group dynamics; lack of social judgement.
