Adhd runs in families more for girls than boys. Heritability based on parent ratings 0. 60-0. 90 (less for teacher ratings) Makes it possible to scan the entire genome. There are areas in everybody"s genome that are duplicated dozens / hundreds of times: multiple copies of certain genes. Does contribute in a mysterious, unknown way to the development of the symptoms of some mental disorders. Good if several disorders share same endophenotype learn about both simultaneously. Dysfunctional reward circuitry involved in adhd: neuroticism: tendency towards negative emotional expression (more rapid and frequent experiences of anxiety and depression) Related to our limbic reactivity to stress. Related to range of psychopathologies, potentially including adhd: conscientiousness. Related to impulsiveness (low levels of conscientiousness) Individuals with adhd phi would be low in conscientiousness. Low birth weight pre mature birth associated with higher levels of anxiety, depression and adhd.
