2000: high impulsive children = less depression when discipline was consistent, more depression when discipline was inconsistent, better or worse performance based on quality of discipline, folet et al. 2004: adolescents with low mao (monoamine oxidase) had more conduct. Disorder with high childhood adversity, less with low adversity (poverty, divorce, abuse: wilhelm et al. 2006: short allele for serotonin receptor = poor response when high stress present, best response under low levels of stress, taylor et al. 2006: short allele for serotonin receptor = most depression after poor early environment, least after supportive early environment, the short allele acts as environmental sensitivity checker. Behaviour symptom (why do they do this) -psychological process (must be a psychologic problem) -> brain structure or brain chemistry -> gene. It just keeps getting more and more complex, people with depression can get anti- anxiety/psychotic meds etc.
