Visser et al (2014): sampled 64 million children 4-17 years of age. Pastor et al (2015): sampled 39,000 children 4-17 years of age. Collins and clearly (2016): using visser"s data, calculated 43% increase in adhd diagnoses between 2004-2014. Phi type starts in nursery or primary school, more common in boys than girls. Pi type starts in primary or high school, equally common in boys and girls. Overall, twice as common in boys than girls more common among teens. Accounts for about 50% of childhood psychiatric patients. 30% increase in diagnoses form 1997 to 2006. * co-morbidity problem: if an individual meets the criteria for one diagnostic label for one disorder then there is a 70% chance they will meet the criteria for another and even more than one more disorder in the dsm5. In one study 49% children received only an adhd disorder label. Conduct/oppositional defiant disorder: 70% of adhd patients. Mood disorder: 50% of lithium responsive bipolar patients.
