We now see autism as a continuum. Poorly integrated verbal, nonverbal communication abnormal eye contact or body language de cient use and understanding of gestures lack of facial expression and nonverbal communication. De cits in developing, marinating relationships dif culty adjusting behaviour to social context dif culty sharing imaginative play, making friends total absence of interest in peers. Stereotyped, repetitive movements, speech etc ex: lining up toys ex: echolalia (repeating back whats someone said to you) ex: idiosyncratic phrases ( say stuff no one understands) Symptoms cause clinically signi cant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning . Symptoms not better explained by intellectual disability, or global development delay. Prone to anxiety, depression (adolescents or adults) Cdc (2007); 67/10,000 *just for 8 year old kids in us.
