Document Summary
In-group: social group to which a person psychologically identi es as being a member. We treat in group members better than out group. Pro social behaviours towards in group members. Direct tness in a sense (evolutionary perspective) Out-group: social group with which an individual does not identify. Asked children to choose one of two coins. Hat + shirt of colour given = reinforce discrimination between groups. Gender plays a role in preference bc gender in-group/out-group. Child asked to rate other children ( rate child a from 1-6, rate child b, 1-6) Child is given coins and ask to distribute to child a&b - preferred colour group. Behavioural attribution questions: which child is more likely to be good which is more likely to be bad - preferred own gender. Children watched video where ostracism is evident. Other children watch random video - no ostracism. Experimenter brought toy in that can be used differently to play with.
