Attachment: development of a strong emotional bond between infant and primary caregiver(s) If baby spends more time with wire mom with food supports cupboard hypothesis. Parent"s relationship with baby: biggest predictor of affectional bond is synchrony, mother-child vs. father-child bonds, mother bond is greater usually, does most of care giving experiences, reading, bathing, cleaning, feeding, dad usually plays with baby. Attachment quality affects everything: sets up all relationships for the rest of your life. Internal working models of relationships: cognitive construction of working relationships, based on experiences with parents, starts developing by around age 1, fully formed by age 5 can no longer change. Internal working models shape and explain all experiences: information processing biases, interpretation of encounters with others. Attachment styles: secure attachment, 60-65% of children, securely attached children, mom is a safe base, prefer mom to stranger, cope well with separation, happy reunion.
