The study of how we change or fail to change over time: doesn"t always involve us changing (sometimes, you can be stable but still aging in the world, which correlates to you developing) Explaining how and why these things happen. Rapid development: always finding something transitioning within children. Continuity vs. discontinuity of development: learning an experience is what causes us to develop , continuous development thinking , example of discontinuity of development, life cycle of a monarch butterfly. Nature vs. nurture: in actuality, both nature and nurture are both key players in how an adolescent turns out. How can we test whether some variable has changed (or not) with age: age-related research designs. Independent variable: what the experimenter is manipulating, random assignment. Dependent variable: changes depending on how much the independent variable is manipulated, not manipulated directly by experimenter.
