Genes and environment work together and affect one another: epigenetics. Genotype and phenotype (the expression of your genotype) Genes might code for you to have an iq of 112, but phenotypically your iq is 120 your phenotype actually is better than what your genes have coded for why? probably your environment. Phenotype is observable and measurable expression of our characteristics, re ects our genotype but takes into account our environment. Environment can also change our genotype itself. Genes can code for us to be 6 feet, but phenotypically we are 5"9 (for example if you don"t have good nutrition, you may not express what is in your genes) (eg. psychiatric disorders caspi et al. , 2003) If you raised the maze bright rats in impoverished environment, they were almost as dumb as maze dull rats phenotypic expression of genetics in relation to their environment. Polygenic (aka multigenic) inheritance there are many genes for one thing.
